I had typed a whole big answer for this question and then stupidly didn't hit post and lost it; i'll see if i can remember what i put the first time.
Chicago PD: NBC
Law and Order: reruns on TNT
Law and Order SVU: reruns on USA
The First 48: A&E
Intervention: A&E
Hoarders: A&E
Dopesick Nation: Viceland
Slutever: Viceland (yes, it's as slutty as the name suggests)
(actually, A&E has a ton of excellent tv docs/series on some really good subjects, i probably watch this channel more than any other on live tv)
YouTube:
~my default go-to when i just need to put something interesting on is to do a youtube search on "true crime documentary playlists" -- you find some seriously bizarro stuff sometimes doing this, so tread lightly. Actually found a couple of true crime cases i wish i'd NEVER heard of.
~search "Dateline full episodes" -- I'm a hardcore Dateline chick.
~something called "The Most Compelling (or is it Disturbing?) Police Interrogations" -- it's in 8 parts so far, I still have yet to watch part 8 as it was only posted last week. Came across some genuinely freaky criminals in these.
-------small pseudomorbid rant to follow-------
~Death Row/Capital Punishment: this is an intense interest of mine and I live in the state that executes the highest number of prisoners per year. I'm militantly against capital punishment; i feel it violates our 8th Amendment rights, as death row execution is inherently cruel and unusual punishment. Plus, where's the logic in murdering people to show that murdering people is wrong? It peeves me when reasons are given such as "It deters capital felonies" because that is simply UNtrue, and it sickens me to hear it said that "it's to provide 'closure' to the family"... There's no such thing. It's vengeance, pure and simple. Murder is ALWAYS wrong; that's a hard line I'm willing to say nobody should ever cross, period, full stop. (Self-defense cases are different, though, imo. And "Castle Law" doesn't work for me either.) /soapbox
~some great capital punishment programs on YouTube:
~"Death Row Stories" narrated by Susan Sarandon is a marvelous, beautifully and compassionately done series that I believe originally is aired on CNN.
~"On Death Row" was a series of i believe 8 episodes of different capital punishment cases, most in Texas, iirc, which was created and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog. (Herzog also has a feature length doc on a capital punishment case that was controversial in Texas a while back, it's called Into The Abyss and if this subject concerns you, this doc is a must-see. It's on YouTube as well, last i checked, and was on Netflix forever a while back - it may still be.)
~"Life and Death Row" - not sure what channel it originally appears on but i got introduced to it via marathon on Nat Geo. Of all the death row shows i've listed here, this series is my favorite. It's just so well done and illuminates some lesser known facts about these prisoners' crimes for which they were condemned to die. Some episodes of this series are truly heartbreaking. But I'm a self-confessed bleeding heart liberal.
just for shits and giggles (and on a lighter note)
Chrisley Knows Best: USA -- I laugh, I cry, I cringe. My pdoc also finds this show quite amusing.
Back to YouTube: if you love deep dissection and discussion of mostly horror and sci fi films, search for Rob Agar. I'm subscribed to him. He also has a YT channel called Collative Learning which is basically more of the same. His videos of discussion on films like Kubrick's The Shining as well as John Carpenter's The Thing are *Awesome*
I'm sure I'll think of more.
