Son #1 and I went to my favorite theater (Alamo Drafthouse) to see The House with a Clock in Its Walls on Monday. It's a family movie, so not my normal genre, but what I read had me intrigued. Great cast including the never-disappointing Cate Blanchett. There wasn't anything I really wanted to see, but I thought it had potential and I love movies.
Well, it didn't disappoint in the least. It's based on a famous children's book by the same name. The screenplay was written by Eric Kripke, who created and wrote most of Supernatural (the tv series). The special effects alone made seeing it on the big screen fantastic. I will surely own this movie some day if only to see the details in the special effects that I missed in the theater. The performances of all the actors, including the kid, were terrific. I heartily endorse this movie. Charming, clever story beautifully told.
Take care (and save me some popcorn, please), Fern

Thanks for the review, Fern. The trailer for this looked interesting, and your review is encouraging, so I might check this one out once there's a way for me to see it.
