These are my suggestions based on MI dxes:
Bipolar 1. Mr. Jones: Richard Gere plays a man that is manic. Very good portrayal of mania 2. The Hours: Story about Virginia Woolf and her depression. It also has a subplot of LGBT community. 3. Silver linings Playbook: About a guy who is bipolar and his struggles with rage, loss, mania and self deception.
SZ 1. Beautiful Mind: story about John Nash and his struggles with sz and the coping skills he had to learn. 2. Benny and Joon: Is about a girl who has sz and falls in love with a normal guy but brother doesn't seem to think that giving her independence is a good thing. 3. Soloist: About a musician who developed sz and became homeless.
Well that's all i got regarding to mental illness.

I would watch any of the movies lena suggested, just for the record. I LOVE Benny and Joon and also the Soloist was excellent as is A Beautiful Mind. The only one I haven't seen before is Mr. Jones. I don't have anything new to add but would love for someone to just pick a movie, *ahem ren*, so we can get watching!

I'm all for watching A Beautiful Mind. I saw it once years ago and although I found it uncomfortable, I also found it beautifully done (no pun intended). I think it's a marvelous choice.

OK everyone. I think I'll just get the ball rolling. A Beautiful Mind is the movie. If you want to participate in the discussion and such, watch the movie by Dec. 31st. We will start a discussion thread at the beginning of the new year. Scroll up in this post and you will find study guides for this movie that I posted. Remember, these study guides have spoilers.

I also would watch/rewatch any of lena's suggestions for next time. I haven't personally seen Mr. Jones but this isn't the first time i've had it recommended to watch.
Also wondering what you guys would think of Requiem For A Dream. It was a suggestion given by a few people in #thevillage today. I've only seen it once, right after it came out and it's so intense I vowed to never need to see it again. However, it's been many years and so it's been long enough where i would actually like to see it again just so we all can discuss it. What do you guys think? Is it a bit too much? Parts of it made me VERY uncomfortable, however it comes across to me as a brutally realistic portrayal of addiction and all the collateral damage it can claim. Curious to hear what you guys think on this one. Obviously a HUGE trigger warning on this one, but it's an excellent movie, and i would just caution anyone who's not yet seen it that it's pretty harsh and disturbing.

CCB has suggested The Soloist as the next movie. I believe it is on US Netflix. She assures me it's a really good movie and well worth a discussion. So Join us in watching The Soloist.
